Outdoor Lighting

Summer is arriving fast in Michigan, meaning it’s the perfect time to consider outdoor renovations for the warm months ahead. An important yet often overlooked element to these outdoor updates is lighting. You’ll be amazed at how much your home and yard can transform with proper illumination; check out some of your options below!
1. Flood lights
Flood lights fill areas such as stairways, garages, or dark doorways. These lights are highly effective at dissuading intruders from approaching your home. They should be placed at least 9 feet above the ground to provide a wider beam of light, and to not be easily accessed.
2. Spotlights
All directional lights fall under this category. Spotlights are perfect for illuminating anything that you want to stand out, oftentimes plants, garden decor, or walls. Strength and coverage can vary depending on the bulb and cover.
3. Up/downlights
These lights can be placed behind hedges or house walls, illuminating the darkest corners of your house’s exterior, while highlighting architecture and landscaping.
Note: Metro Electric does not offer this residential electrical service.
4. String lights
String lights have been gaining popularity for their soft picturesque glow. They lack strong illumination, but these lights are perfect for outdoor areas of gathering, such as decks, patios, or gazebos, since they won’t strain eyes.
